Ecuador in October

I've been invited to a race in Equador in October, Equador looks like an awesome place to visit and the race looks like it will be good times. Check out the promo video.

Erzberg rocks ...

will try to get more photos of my actually riding Erzberg over time ... thanks in advance to Jo Wolframm / dr-dirt.de for this one! THis one is of me conquering 'Dynamite' section - one of the last nasty sections, so I was pretty exhausted!

and thanks to Red Bull for this one where I look dead ...

Erzberg 2011 - done!

Well, it's done - my fourth Erzbergrodeo. I finished 8th overall - with only 9 finishers out of 500 qualified from 1800 starting the prologue, I was pretty happy to be within the 0.5% finishing rate!

It was bloody hard, that's for sure. There were sections where the only wasy up was with people to drag your bike up, and others where you had to get up with a rope - no way around it. It's a bit disappointing as extreme races one by one get the 'race' taken out of them in some ways. Luckily I had heaps of awesome SA supporters to help me so I was ok.

Time to race

Race day, the big one, is finally here. It's been raining all night and shows not much sign of letting up to be honest! We are all pretty nervous. I am feelin good but man, those rocks and those wet, wet forest sections look tough as all hell.

I guess that's what we should expect but Erzberg is a racet hat definitely gets harder each year! Me, Darryl, Riaan and Scotty are all on the front row which is a good thing.

THink fast thoughts for us, we are just going to give it our best and all finish!!

Erzberg practice!

Yesterday we were fortuante enough to get a guide to show us where we could take some photos. I'll put some better ones up soon - but it's fun to play around on the Iron Giant before it totally destoys us tomorrow!!

Erzbergrodeo - it's on!

So we are on Saturday of Erzberg now, I've completed the prologue, both attempts and am feeling good. No crashes - which is great, as heaps are crashing out on the second run today.

What else - the weather has been very 'Aucklandish' - rain, cold, then sun ... but we are pretty happy still. Hoping for no rain tomorrow for main race day - not even I want rain!

There are some big names here this year - Taddy, Cyril, Letti, Lampkin, Taichi, and of course me (hmmm).

The Mighty Iron Giant

Today we found out it is a public holiday so no proper breakfast. Stoked that we can ride this race. We took the Red Bull KTM rally VWs out today ... was awesome. Prologue is tighter than last year.

Rainy and a bit cooler here, but pumped for prologue tomorrow. KTM300 EXC 2012 is looking SEXY!

Erzberg is all on

Thankfully the right people have spoken to the right people and the wrong people are no longer doing the wrong things to the right people.

Everything has come right and me and the rest of the SA guys are now able to race Erzberg without fear of loosing our race licence's. Obviously this is a huge weight of my mind and I can now concentrate on conquring the iron giant. A huge thanks to the people involved in resolving this and to everyone who sent messages of support.

Its raining heavily here at Erzberg, lovely!

To ride or not to ride??

Pictures speak 1000 words? Having a great time at the KTM SA dealer conference which we hijacked (thanks Fran!)

Sightseeing, rides in KTM Xbows, testing new Duke 125s, nice food, R&D department of KTM, engine manufacturing plants ... all in a days work!

Oh yeah and yesterday Hangar 8 - the extra special part of the Red BUll dude's private aircraft / big boys toys! Amazing. I'm so jealous of his 'shed'

Bring on Erzberg!
